Asia University and Amazon Web Services (AWS) co-hosted the University AWSome Day today, allowing faculty, students, and staff from the university and its affiliated hospitals to learn about AWS core services and cloud-related knowledge.
University AWSome Day is a significant event organized by AWS (Amazon Web Services) specifically for university organizations worldwide, covering various AWS cloud services and their applications across different industries. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Asia University, and through the preparations of the Asia University Precision Health Research Center and the Asia University USR Center, AWS Taiwan was invited to host the University AWSome Day.
Asia University President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai and the Head of Strategic Programs at Amazon Web Services delivered opening remarks. President Tsai stated that seeing the software and hardware services provided by AWS demonstrates the corporate social responsibility of the company, and he expressed hope that through industry-academic cooperation, they could jointly cultivate talent and contribute to the industry.
President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai noted that although Asia University is a relatively new institution, it frequently ranks first among non-medical universities in Taiwan in world university rankings, such as the Times Higher Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, QS World University Rankings, and U.S. News & World Report. Asia University emphasizes students' AI capabilities, promoting AI-driven smart finance, big data, cloud computing, and the circular economy. The university has established an AI Elite Class, encouraging students to participate in competitions, resulting in over 40 awards in various contests held by ITRI and NCSIST. Furthermore, an AI doctoral program has been established, with AI courses serving as a focal point for both departmental and industry-academic research. The goal for recent years is to perfect the "Great Health" industry through precision medicine and precision health.
The AWS representative praised Asia University's efforts over the past 20 years, noting that they are evident and even surpass many national universities. He explained that the "cloud" industry is a worthwhile investment for young people, as IoT, AI, and big data all require data storage; many of the world's top 500 companies and large Taiwanese enterprises are Amazon customers. Simultaneously, he encouraged Asia University students to engage more with cloud industry knowledge and technology during their studies to enhance their future career prospects. Today's event is designed to train Asia University students in using AWS cloud courses to better integrate into society in the future.
An AWS senior instructor introduced that registering for AWS Educate provides access to 12 free cloud professional training paths, including today's most popular career choices such as Big Data, Machine Learning, and Cloud. Each career path includes 25-50 hours of cloud courses and online practical exercises.
Wang Chao-Neng, Executive Director of the Asia University Precision Health Research Center, stated: "Moving toward the construction of a precision health care system by 2030 is one of the primary policies currently promoted by the government. This focuses on three main pillars: 'the development of genomic testing and health big data,' 'the construction of health big data systems and data standardization models,' and 'accelerating the development of emerging precision medical technologies and the health industry.' The Asia University Precision Health Research Center primarily applies artificial intelligence technology combined with genomic data, clinical data, and lifestyle data for personalized prediction, prevention, treatment, and prognostic risk assessment. AWS is currently the most trusted technology partner in the global healthcare field, providing security and privacy for operations in highly regulated industries. Through AWS, many technologies can accelerate the pace of innovative research and development, unlock the potential of medical data, and enable personalized medical health management. In the future, we will fully leverage the potential of artificial intelligence through AWS services to solve the greatest challenges currently facing precision health."
